website promotion?

Hello. How do you think: if i create a custom toolbar (with my own brand,logo etc.) and register it somewhere, could it possibly increase a number of visitors of my site??? And if the answer is "yes", what do you think about them ? Should i go with them? Dis anyone use their software???

I doubt it's worth the hassle.

The only toolbars I've ever seen people download and use were ones from known search engines, and even then it's not a lot of people. Unless you're going to be offering something they might want to access all of the time, I don't see that you're really going to get anyone to download it.

You're probably better off spending the time finding more places which will link to your site instead.

Please don't make something else for incompetent computer users to download and clutter up their browsers with. There are PLENTY of other cost effecient ways of getting traffic.

Yeah, i would workin on linking to other sites, be it link exchanges or web rings before i would make a tool bar. Savvy surfers are mostly just going to use yahoo or google toolbar if any at all.

Good luck!

If this toolbar ended up being used by enough people, then sure it would bring traffic. That's a big if. RockNRollPig has it right that it would be very untrustworthy - since your brand is unknown. You're brand would also suffer greatly if there is a negative association. Kind of like the concept of the "Click of Death" since it diminishes the value of whatever you are doing.

I would stay away from making a toolbar. How many more will people need? I could imagine that many would also suspect spyware by this.

For the most part, I would have to agree. Google/MSN/Yahoo have a lock on the toolbar market already. Alexa is making a little headway, but not much.

The only time I could see a toolbar being of benefit to webmaster is if;

They have a loyal group of visitors.

That group is tens of thousands strong.

The toolbar has “tools” or other valuable features included in it that other toolbars do not.
