Is there a way to know the number of visits of a certain website?

If I understand you correctly, yes there is.

You could have a look for gogole(typo)Google analytics or something like awstats should provide most of the information you need.

To explain the difference, google analytics puts a little javascript into each page of the website (or once into the site template), this logs hits with the google analytics site. Swstats (analog,webalizer and family) need access to the websites logfiles so they can parse the files and show you the site statistics.

I've search this as what you suggest http://www.google.com/analytics/ ,but then this is all about your own personal websites stats. Actually I simply want to know the number of visit my friends web page has .

Your friend could put the google analytics code on his site, but if you wanted to check it without that then pick one of the following:

AwStats
Webalizer
Analog
Weblog Expert Lite

To get the number of hits and other statistics you will need access to his web-servers logs. If he is on shared hosting then the company he buys it from should provide basic stats.

Without access to his personal stats, there really is no way to tell. I've asked this question before on a different forum. You actually have to have access to his back office to get his actually traffic stats.

You could get a general idea from sites like Alexa but of course there is always room for error with these types of sites.

Alexa is unrepresentative of a sites actual hits as it only is based on the number of people with the Alexa tool bar (which a lot of people don't use) which visit the site in question.

Go to alexa.com, type in the web address, and hit traffic rank.
