Get yourself some of these: ph34r You need links. Not many of them, because I really doubt very many people search for ph34r.

Yes your are right zonelinks
You are right about analyzing the top results for any keyword. It is not just to understand the seo but also because requirements for every keywords are different. For example backlinks required, keyword density it all depends in the keyword competition.

I would suggest changing your sig in this forum (or any spidered forum) to something that includes the anchor text numberplates. |

Are you talking about rank 6 in the serps or PR6? My guess is you're talking PR, who would aim for spot 6 in the serps? With a little work (or if you just own a bunch sites or buy links) you can get PR 6 or higher in a couple weeks - depending on Google's PR update cycle. If you're talking serps, that depends on so many different factors it's hard to estimate without knowing the details. Last edited by GuyFromChicago : May 14th, 2004 at 09:22 PM. |

I've been trying to get ranked by Google for the past month. My content is fine and I'm doing fine with Yahoo, but Google needs to see quality link from another site to yours to even start giving your site a ranking. Quality link here means a link from a web page that itself has a ranking of 4 or above.
The irony of this is that this discussion board has now sufficient ranking and if you put URL into google and hit links to get to URL you will see that the site will now be ranked because there is a link to the site from THIS VERY FORUM. Thats the ironic part, if you want to begin to be ranked, considering your site is already content heavy then put a link to your site on this forum as part of the discussion and you will eventually be visible to Google. Incidentally, my site URL is still not ranked by Google which is a shame. Thanks all, and hope this helps Last edited by rankuhigh : May 15th, 2004 at 07:58 PM. Reason: Grammar error |

Welcome rankuhigh
Your site is about stockmarket which is a very competitive keyword. If you want indexing you will get it within few days if you get just get a few good backlinks from a few good sites. If you want to a good ranking for this site then you will need lots of backlinks with the proper link text.

If you abuse the forums google will eventually cut you off. And the links that you have going back to your site from forums, such as this one will be removed (backwards links).

With 200+ posts, I don't have one solid backwards link from forums.devshed.com. Becuase google has killed each and every one of those links ( partially due to dynamic content, I think )

That's not true, at least if it is there's no conclusive evidence of it anywhere. One of my sites has links from this forum, so they do "count" and there's no evidence that they are penalized or given any less importance than a link on a "normal" webpage. |

See, I would love to believe that, but my page rank fluctuates too much, I am my own web dev, so I pay attention to my personal site as if it was my child walking through the grocery store. Also, with 231 posts, you would think that I would have 1 backwards link from devshed, but alas, not such luck.
Same thing is true for a lot of forums that I use, in fact, If I type my full name into google there is almost 400 different places that link back to me, from things like signatures and profiles, yet, I don't have very many solid backwards links. It feels like punishment :P |

I have way too many results from here sometimes.
It get's a little scary when I find certain links in my extended results, things I never gave much thought to, but google starts here and follows every possibility. It's especially a problem when I'm posting scripts and demos in the PHP forum. I really gotta watch what I leave open. I guess it all depends on how much plain text vs linked text you use and the context or subject of your post. |

Whether or not it shows as a link depends on the PR of the page that has the post. If the PR is too low, it will count as a link. It will be included in the "contains the term" page but not the link page. I noticed you do have some links from this forum shown in the "contains the term" page. By the very nature of forums a lot posts/pages never get a very high PR and will never count as a link. Posts and pages just keep getting pushed deeper and deeper into the forum and out of memory. |
