Y & G - same BW but 1000% percent more visitors from G.

Hi. am attaching screen captures from my AWStats.

googlebot and yahoo crawlers cost me about 3 GB of traffic (each) every month (and resources ....)

I have active forums with new content every day, and thus, the SE keep coming back ...

However, according to AWStats in Cpanel, more than 85% of visitors coming from SE's to my site are coming through Google.

Is this something expected?

Why almost all the time I have about 10 yahoo crawlers on my site with so little visitors finally coming from the big Y??

Your traffic from a search engines is not determined by how often is crawls you. It is determined by:

1) How well you rank in that search engine.

2) The amount of traffic the search engine itself gets. Since Google search gets a lot more traffic then Yahoo search I'd say those numbers make sense.

The number of crawlers on your site also doesn't indicate how well you will rank in a search engine. Yahoo is especially known for aggressive site crawling.

Thank you for this very kind and helpful reply.

I unfortunately see my very rich forums PageRank go down in google from PR4 to PR3 (using this tool)

thank you again

PageRank is a numerical representation of link popularity. Not traffic or rankings. So if their PR is dropping then their link popularity relative to the rest of the Internet is dropping.

I understand this..... and despite my efforts, I have not been able to get any of my sites above PR5, and our forums above PR4.

I really did a lot, worked on this hard, and spent a lot of money on this..... it is sad when you see your PR is still dropping....

Increasing PR gets more difficult at every level. Going from a 4 to a 5 is more difficult then going from a 3 to a 4, etc.. To get over a PR5 you'll need plenty of high PR links pointing to your homepage. Not a small task.

thank you for this valuable info

and I can imagine it would be far more difficult to get a good PR on a non-English site as most of the websites where there are some links back to my site are rather ill-SEOed, though have excellent activity....

I really wonder if the absolute majority of websites are any close to the most basic SEO principles.

I still visit so many sites where the title of the page is "Home Page" or even more impressive "Untitled Page".... Give it a search on Google and see for yourself....

a lot of sites I visit have no keywords or site description tags whatsoever, let alone robot.txt or .htaccess. a lot of people I know who have websites almost put all files (html, pdf, mp3, wmv, jpg and gifs) on the public_html folder ...

so many web owners would be totally paralised without frontpage extensions and many have no idea whatsoever what ftp stands for...

shoot a google search to see how many web owners still use 2000kb bmp files for a 200X200 pixel image, that they still finally resize in frontpage width and height tags as 20X20 pixels, and they wonder why my server is slow...... (not that the final total size of the files associated with their page is beyond 5MBs.. )

I was recently invited by a friend to visit a new section on his website where only the main page loads automatically some 50 movie clips, all at the same time......

OK. enough for the ranting for this evening.

thank you all for your kind advice.
