I think interstitial ads are good if you've something to offer that is very useful or special, it should not look hype, it can work if visitors are highly targeted.

I've rarely even browse this forum, but from what I've read about here and there I somewhat understand a few aspects, so I'm tempted to ask what is an interstitial ad? I understand the word, but not entirely it's use.
I'm interested... it's something I don't know about. |

Interstitials are pages containing ads that are displayed in between pages on a website. The user clicks a link and is presented with a page with an advertisement, which automatically redirects to the desired page after a certain amount of time or until the user clicks on a skip link. |

IMO, any in your face ad is annoying and tends to make me not want to visit specfic sites. I'm not against ads, they are a fact of life, but i don't want to have to wait or click on something to get to the info i want. I would rather just find the info somewhere else.

I get very annoyed about this kind of thing, and immediately leave the site if it happens. And apart from wasting time and bandwith, I imagine they are a big problem from an accessibility point of view.

I personally don't like them. If I was going to use an ad, and I rarely use ads, I would use a simple banner/sidebar ad. A few things I don't like about those types of ads are (1) they take up time that I (the user) could be doing other things; (2) as mentioned above by Mike George, they take up bandwidth; and (3) with the previous they may make some users not want to visit your site anymore. I have often left sites just because of annoying ads; there are tons of sites on the internet and I am sure users could find a dozen sites that have the same content as your site but without the interstitial ads.
Overall, just stick to the old fashioned ads (banners, text, images, etc.) and leave the new ad making up to the mad men.

The site must have interactive feature to read the visitors and all it is art of selling depend how and when you best represent a specifically designed ad to highly targeted visitors.
