Cryptography is a fascinating subject, and to a certain extent most developers use it... But do a *lot* of developers use cryptography a *lot*? Don't know, just askin'

I want to get into it when I find myself some time. I know someone who might actually come here if you make one because he's getting into it.

I voted for #2 because it was the closest ... although I do find it interesting and would probably read some threads I likely wouldn't participate much.

Cryptology is a field unrelated to development, and is actually more closely related to mathematics. Implementation of a cryptographic system is where the development comes in. Unless we want to open a whole Mathematics/Theory Forum (Turing theory, Matrix/Abstract Algebra, Physics, etc.), I don't really see why the forums that already exist can't handle such implementation questions. Besides, do we really want to be discussing the encoding we're going to be using for our awesome new email scrambler? The answer isn't so cryptic--unless you want to read my flame mails to Al Gore...

Well what if you are creating a program that needs to have data transmitted securely and you quesiton is security specific?

Thats security engineering, and would probably have to go in either the Software Design Forum, or in a language specific forums....

I know, but does it really have to be related to development, I understand that these are development boards, but my hope was it could extend to cryptology, if enough people were interested anyway.....And if we had a Mathematics/Theory Forum I'd be there a lot too,

[EDIT]: Don't forget complexity/computational theory, that could be useful as well.....but yeah, I think that creating a Mathematics/Theory Forum would be going a bit to the extreme, but I'd be very interested if we did, not that I see it getting all that much use, but yeah, you get my drift...I hope.......

TheJim01 agrees: BIG O! Math == teh coolest. But seriously, cryptology is more of a concept, where these forums
concentrate more on practice.
