CGI Scripts and Admin Passwords
I have just purchased a new web server that is up and running. After the transition period I changed the administrator password and all of my CGI Scripts Died. When I change my password back to the orginal password it works just fine.
I need to know how to change the password and still have my scripts run correctly. Any help would be appreciated. |

This is an odd problem. I cannot see any logical connection between the action and the result.
Please defined "died". Is it "They don't work at all anymore and I get a 500 internal server error now" or ...? Is there something special about your CGI-scripts related to the problem? Like: - Are they authenticating users against the system user database? - Are they system management scripts? Are they your own programming or third-party? The admin password should never be needed for any CGI. Did you talk to your hosting provider support yet? Maybe they have a very special setup where they change more than only the password on changing the password ( err, you get what I mean?).I am thinking of a problem along the line of using a windows server with encrypted folders for the CGI here. What I mean by "my scripts died" I am using a freeware formmail script. I have read the instructions for installing the script fresh but there is no mention of a password needed. When I change the password I can still fill out the Information form but when I hit submit it won't go to my thankyou page. It gives me a white page and in the address it shows my domain.com/formmail.pl and won't go past that.... Neither does it send the email that it is supposed to send. As soon as I change the administrator password back to the original password it works great.
How can changing that one password change the permissions on the CGI folder? |

The only way I can think of is a Windows server with encrypted folders. ... or some very specific setup at your ISP's where they do that for a reason. You should contact their tech support about this issue. M. |
