Deviantart Spambots

I have been a registered user on deviantart for close to 5 years. Lately I have seen a proliferation of "bots" that automatically fave pictures and when people post on their profile, they'll send a spam message to everyone who commented. Does anyone know how this works? How would I go about writing a program or script that does the same thing? Would I need to use Python, PHP, C++ for example, or could I use a pre-made program to do the same thing? I wish to understand this process. Thanks.
