Crypto Algorithm Question - Higher-order homophonic ciphers

Greetings!

Would anyone please elaborate what a higher-order homophonic cipher is? I'm conversant with the simple homophonic cipher (as described at 'simonsingh.net/The_Black_Chamber/homophoniccipher.htm') but haven't found much literature regarding higher order homophonics.

Any insight is appreciated. Thanks.
