How many Digital Certificates needed?

We have a number of MySQL/PHP driven sites now on our virtual server, and we are now involved in a site with online ordering so a digital certificate will be needed. (Thawte probably)

Will one digital cert. cover all of the sites on our Virtual server? (as it would be nice to secure some of the forms on our other sites)

Or will we have to buy a certificate for each individual site? (boo)

We have a number of eCommerce projects coming up all under our own ownership, so the fewer certs to be bought the better!

This might be more eCommerce than MySQL but any advice is very welcome!
