Does anyone know how to go about using htpasswd on a unix server from within a perl script?

I want to build an admin interface using this system for passwd protection.

htpasswd is to be configured with htaccess and has nothing to do with Perl script.
You may use Perl to build an admin interface.

I was aware that htaccess has nothing to do with perl, but it is security related that someone might be able to point me in the direction of some sample code.
