Firewall Question - ICMP ECHO: To block or not to block?
I know that many websites block ICMP ECHO (ping) packets, yet there are some - most notably Google - that do not. Does anyone know of a good reason to allow this from the public internet? Everyone I know pings google.com when troubleshooting their internet connection and - security considerations aside - I can't imagine that the bandwidth usage does not add up for Google.
Would love to hear people's thoughts
