Messenger Service?
Hi
Something really strage happened to me today , i left my computer on all day while i was away but it had no programs running.
When i got home i went to the computer and there was a box with the title "messenger service" , it had a message in german which i didnt understand with the word "achtung" being used 3 or 4 times. It also said "from (something in german) to xxx.xx.xx...(My IP)" and ended with "visit www.goto6.com" which i went to check and is a porn site.
Now, i have no idea whats this ,or what harm it may have did to my pc(if it did any).
Anybody can explain this to me please?

There are some low level trojans that use the windows messenger service. Did you do a virus or trojan scan?
There are also some ad-ware dealies that will try to force ads onto your desktop using the windows messenger.

My wife had something sorta like you are talking about a while ago. I did scans and all and even used adAware to see if it could flush anything, but nothing. I finally went to her c drive folder and noticed a download of some sort of activeX application, sure enough, that was the problem......
P.S. - do us a small favor zecarioca and edit your post with the link and make it not clickable - add a couple of spaces in the link or something. Thanks....

The Windows messenger service is installed by default by all windows nt and up systems. Its for communicating over networks. You can use the command "net send [ip address or name or the person you want to message] [your message]" to send messages to people. I doubt its a virus. They probably ran a port scan and found your ip and sent you a message. Also, do you have a wireless lan? Hope this information helps!
