hosted virtual server (apache) and ssl?
I'm using a hosted virtual server, and don't have access to the httpd.conf-file. Is there any way to set up mod_ssl using a .htaccess-file? Or any other way for that matter.

If your host is currently running mod_ssl, then even if you have access to httpd.conf, you still can't configure mod_ssl for your site. Not to mention when you are trying to do it via .htaccess.
mod_ssl is for ONE domain per CERT per IP. That said, if your host's domain is www.default.com, you can't get https://yoursite.default.com. Even you have access to httpd.conf, you still can't configure mod_ssl to your site at https://www.yoursite.com. Unless IP-based vhost is being used.

Ok, I didn't explain the situation good enough.
I have my own domainname (www.somname.com) and my host has a completely different name (www.differentname.no). I also got my own IP-address. The virtual part is that it's only one server.

That's all you need for qualification.
But still, you can't configure mod_ssl via .htaccess. Are there any reasons why you don't tell your host to do it for you?

Only that it would have been nice to setup this myself. Thanx for your help.
