Arrow atuomated testing tool

Folks, I do a lot of qa work with software. I would like to develop an automated tool set for web testing. Yes I know there are commercial packages (mercury interactive, silk, etc., but I would think that there must something in (ugh) Microsoft’s pile of software that can be built into a testing tool. Can any one point me in the right direction and maybe even throw some code chunks my way? Preferably in vbs.

There are numerous open source libraries and frameworks for web testing, so I suggest you check some of them out before re-inventing the wheel.
