does anyone have an ideea on how could a system like kazaa be implemented? i am interested in the part where the kazaa program finds other kazaa hosts without the need of a stabile server(with a fix IP).

When someone connects to the Kazaa network, their IP is logged. When someone disconnects, their IP is taken out. Simple as that.

No. You need a central computer for all the computers to connect to.

..or a network with a load of traffic for identification alone.
You could possibly follow the example of NetBIOS where the computers will elect a 'browse master' based on seniority and uptime, and re-elect when this computer goes offline. |

This doesn't have much to do with Algorithms. Moving to Networking.

If heinrich lets us in on his language of choice, it'll want moving back to programming!

Alright, I'll move this back to Algorithms trusting that the conversation will be more on algorithms similar to Kazaa and not about networking.

by the way, Kazaa's search algorithm is horrible...

I'm not sure where it best resides Damon. Lets await heinrichs input on what exact assistance is required.
