I think you should try CZ-Doc2Htm

Isn't there a Microsoft Office SDK out there somewhere? My company generates DOC files dynamically but I've never directly worked with it. I'm pretty sure something exists, at least for the .NET framework.

This is almost trivial in visual basic. Since VBA is in Word, that is theoretically about all you need. You can reference the word object from other programs and programatically manipulate word documents.

Isn't that all the more reason to just ditch the .doc format?!? Write a parser for the Open Document standard (which is _suprise_ open source, so you CAN view the specifications) and encourage others to use it. It will make your life a lot easier (and more productive). Why would you want to waste time reverse engineering Microsoft's flaws? |

Because the world doesn't like or even know what the hell OpenSource is. 99% of the world is owned by Micro$oft. Their format is the most dominant and they have no reason to change it. Developers like ourselves see the reason to change, but if Micro$oft can squeeze some bucks out of their proprietary format then they have no reason to change. Users don't care, as long as it works. I don't hate microsoft. I just dislike most of thier products, such as their operating system, their web browser, and their web server. Others, such as Media Player and (bloat notwithstanding) Office, are pretty good. My main problem with the company is their focus on ease-of-use at the cost of security. Also, I believe that they engage in questionable business practices. But any other company would do the same thing to protect it's market. |
