Site Search in Backend or Frontend

I'm curious as to what some of you would recommend about this subject. I'm writing a single page site. It has a RESTful backend api and a frontend with javascript react & redux. The question is, for my site search, would be advisable to perform all the search functions on the backend, where the database, or in the front end? As in, do it all on the backend and just return the search results, already ordered and filtered, to the frontend for display.

I know people dislike performance questions but it's a pretty big change to do later, if I want to reverse it to boost performance, or if it's ill-adviced for any other reason to perform searches with javascript.

    All thoughts are welcome.

Put reasonable part of search to the front end.
The lines and front ends are cheaper and cheaper,
power of front ends is not used most of the time
and some processing can be done also if off-line.
