I'm doing my dissertation on viral marketing. Part of my research design involves exploring internet user motivation and behaviour in terms of forwarding content, like virals. I have developed a survey in order to measure these characteristics.

Would it be possible to post the link to the survey in the general discussion section of the forums? Its' brief, confidential, non-commercial, and for academic research purposes only and I would be happy to make the finished study freely available. Please contact me if you have any queries.

Make a thread in the Lounge with some details and a link to the
survey and some people might take it.

As Cheif said, post it in the Lounge. However, until you have 5 posts or more, you won't be able to post a URL so you may want to see if you can make another few posts helping people and then posting your link.

And I will endeavour to share my meagre computer knowledge as soon as poss, but unfortunately I feel that at my level of expertise this forums got more to offer me than the other way round.

Its' a little bit fulltilt at the mo, but I'm definitely going to mine the programmer sections. Honestly, who needs beginner programming for dummies, (I know its a bit poo anyway, but I wanted to start somewhere)? Having said that, I didn't really get a chance to try it, since I bought a mac for uni (and the Basic tutorial thingy I d/led for it just seemed to make no sense).

Er, anyway, rambled on a bit. But very glad I found this forum. Much newbie questions to come!

I have a few questions:

1.) What is your PhD in?
2.) What is your dissertation subject exactly?
3.) Where do you go to school?
4.) Who is your advisor's?
5.) How long is your survey

I ask because your language you are using doesn't sound like a PhD level language, and not knowing how to program yet wanting to do a paper on Viral marketing is a bit of an undertaking. Viral marketing is that of a meaning of using networking both in the physical and non-physical form to use a programmatic approach to marketing your service through mediums that aren't standard.

You COULD post this in the Lounge, but your data would be extremely flawed because if your survey hasn't been reviewed by a highly qualified statistician then your data will be irrelevant. A good statistician/psychologist will enable your survey to be constructed in a way that will allow your data to be self checking and accurate.

Who said anything about a PhD., anyway?

Dissertation is often associated with a treatise by a graduate student going for a doctoral degree. But it doesn't have to be applied that narrowly. I often use the term casually, e.g.

I answered the basics of your programming question but I don't have the time nor the space to write a formal dissertation telling you everything I know about database programming. Maybe a beginner book would be a good resource.

True, however in the general sense if you are doing a dissertation on something as specific as the OP has requested it in all fairness is most likely going to correlate heavily to his success for getting an advanced degree in the field of their choice.
