How come they don't have a way to search members better? I see they're sorted by username by default and you can pick a letter. Then if you want to sort another way, let's say by reputation desc, you have to go all the way up in the url bar and change some variables.
I don't wanna go through 10 million users who have <1 sec in the forum or 1 or 2 posts. I wanna find the good stuff.

Moved from the Lounge to Suggestions & Feedback.
I'm not sure how much it helps, but you can always use http://forums.devshed.com/member.php?username=whatever.

I can agree with that... there have been times when I want to find a member and slogged through fifteen pages to find it.
If you knew the name, then you could use advanced search with the user's name and then click on one fo the posts to get to the user's page, but it could be faster if there were a username search in the member's page.

But if you didn't know exactly the name of the person, this would present a problem, which Is why I believe the letters are there. But, let's say I want to find the most popular people so I can go track down posts and learn stuff, then I got to either find them in the forums(they do post alot, but that's extra work), or mod the url of the members search. That's just darn inconveinient! I think that a better Member search should be devised. |

Agree, member search should be improved.

member search was being used for spamming IIRC, and was switched off to protect users

I don't understand why you would want to search for a member when you don't exactly know the username ?
Sunday mornings aren't for thinking about these things, especially with a little sleep for a couple of days ! |

Well, I was looking for the highest rep'd people to find good info on threads. It works great. However Axweildr is right it would result in spamming(and apparently already had.) I guess it's not such a great idea, or(!) enable it for people with more than 100 posts, that will take the spamming away. (Unless someone with more than 100 posts wanted to spam, but that's less likely.) |

Well, I was trying to pm an old time member and I didn't remember exactly his nickname, in that case a better member search function would be useful.
I think that giving access only to people with more than 100 posts would be a good solution. |
