If you look in the Forum Hacks Information thread, there is
a list of the post counts you need for certain belts. |

One thing on the rep system that annoys me is getting -- rep for a moderating decision, ie, closing a thread because it shouldn't be open (not in the lounge - other forums)...

Where's that happened?
Someone in the lounge actually complained cos a mod had --'d him or her once the thread had been deleted. Maybe it would be possible to have rep disabled in locked/deleted threads...? If you're upset that edwin got that many ++'s for closing the thread in the lounge, it's no big deal, it's just the first thread I came accross when searching his posts. I judt thought he needed more rep, as his contribution largely goes by un-noticed by most.

If it's worth closing, it's usually worth deleting. Also, you don't have to post "thread closed"... just close the damn thing. Then no one can hurt your feelings or your precious rep.

Weighing in late on this conversation, however...
I see how the rep system can be overly abused just by looking at the number of greenies people are sporting around these forums. If you can believe it, there's bitching over in DevHardware about the rep system being abused there and there are only four people with double greenies. It's been suggested and I wholly endorse finding a method to "dial up" a rep. By this I meant that the powerhouse 8, 10, 16 rep power guys could rep a person 2 or 3 points as they deem necessary (up or down within already established parameters) rather than being hobbled with wielding the full power of their rep. I know I certainly wouldn't want to be slammed for -8 rep points for something that could've been worth -2 otherwise. Conversely, I feel that the extra greenie I earned in Devhardware by 1,2,and 3 point increments is that much more deserved than the second greenie I will eventually earn here, if only because I amassed 30-some points off three reps alone. Not that I am complaining about getting rep points, and I am sure I am earning quite a few negatives just by writing this, but it's just the way I percieve things. And regardless of the number of greenies I have (or reds, for that matter), it will not affect the quality (or lack thereof) of the posts I generate. FWIW, YMMV, OMGWTFBBQ |
