Feature Request: Disable Edit After ## Minutes

So I have noticed a lot of noobs in the JavaScript forum who: post, figure out the solution, edit their initial thread with "nevermind", and close the thread.

The main issue I have with this practice is that the thread posted may be of use to someone with the same problem, when the thread gets trashed, it becomes useless to everyone.

The idea behind having threads is to follow a discussion, editing the original post and closing the thread defeats that concept. When reading threads, I really like the fact that I can go back and see where the initial concept came from; even if the poster is inexperienced, I may gain some insight.

I propose disabling the ability to edit a post, maybe 30 minutes after it has been posted. I think edit is more useful for the situation where you say, "Oops, I screwed up that part of the code... better fix it."

Although I agree with those that edit their post just to say nevermind, I still like the edit option there. Mainly because I may ask a question, and through research find something else out or in continuing through a search, realize I should've added an extra item of detail. Instead of having to reply to each of my posts for the additional info, I think being able to edit to add the info is better. I know there are many others that do the same... edit their post to include more relevant info. Otherwise some of these posts that maybe have 10 replies before a solution, might have a lot more.

Maybe having the option to disable their post until they have reached x amount of posts would be better.... those that are new may not realize that posting the solution will be beneficial, however, those that have been here for awhile do realize it to help others...

Just my two cents.

Alot of the time I won't even read a thread if it has a reply as I figure someone else has already responded to it, I know a few others do the same. If we disabled editing a thread and people started posting 2nd and 3rd posts to their own threads then alot of posts would go un-answered. Well until we changed our ideology. Personally I probably won't though, I'll just look at the ones with a reply already that peek my interest by their title.

The idea of disabling editing till they have x posts is great.
