General forum rules
i can't quite remember what i had to agree to when i became a member of dev shed (happiness is a bad memory), but i only became aware of the forum rules by subsequently nosing around - and fortunately before i posted anything that contravened them
wouldn't be a good idea if, as part of the process of becoming a member, you had to go through the General Forum Rules, and tick a box indicating that you have read and understood them, and promise to abide by them ? that way, there would be no need to repeatedly educate newcomers about do's and don'ts + at least you would be sure that if someone misbehaved, they should have known better ... |

You have to do exactly that when you sign up in order to use the forums as a new user.

oops, well obviously i signed up without taking the advice in but made up for it later on
any chance that others are falling in the same trap (i mean, you might be so eager to post your problem that you'd agree to anything - a bit like clicking 'agree' to terms and conditions that you haven't read properly) ? |

Unfortunately, I think most people suffer from EULA blindness, look immediately for the tick box and submit, or press F8, and plough on regardless ....

Maybe a one-question pop quiz is in order after the EULA? It might even give the EULA some legal ground to stand on, by showing that it cannot be simply "avoided" by checking a box.
That will scare off a lot of the do-my-homework-for-me signups as well, I think.
