Javascript Forum
Some small corrections to be made in the Javascript forum.
Under the title of the forum, "Javascript Development" is a brief description of the forum: "Javascript Development forum discussing Javascript and DHTML, AJAX, as well as issues such as coding cross-browser Javascript. Javascript is a subset of the popluar Java programming language." Two things wrong with the last sentence: 1) popular is spelled incorrectly. 2) The statement is wrong; I don't believe Javascript is a subset of Java. AFAIK, they are two separate languages. Netscape called the scripting language Javascript to capitalize on the popularity of Java, and the syntax of both languages is very "C"-like, but I am pretty sure Javascript is NOT a subset of Java. Have to agree with you on both points there.

Can you suggest a better description, then? That's what the admins are going to ask us. The descriptions should make it very clear where to ask JavaScript, JSP, Java, etc. questions...

Just removing the last sentence should do it, methinks.

"Javascript is syntactically similar to - but not - Java."
And maybe: "The two are commonly confused; try not to make the same mistake when seeking the assistance of our regulars." In case you're wondering why I resurrected this multi-week-old topic, I have this to say: I use the search feature ![]() Last edited by Joseph Taylor : May 5th, 2006 at 03:30 PM. |

I just noticed this.

Is it possible to have one forum description include AJAX? I would think it would fit better in Javascript instead of Other Programming Languages. But either way is fine by me as long as it's one place or the other. Having both is just asking for trouble. I'm posting here because it's related. Oh and I like Joseph's suggestion for the Javascript description.
