What sort of web browser issues? Generally, they would just go under the OS section I would imagine.

Is a browser not OS independent? Or do we need to post relevant to OS?

I guess.. if you can use the browser without the OS. If you need an OS to use the browser, then a browser is OS dependent, right?

Not really. The same browser across different platforms will generally behave differently.

So Opera would require a forum but IE wouldn't then?

What he's saying is that you can't run Opera without an operating system. I can't create an Opera boot disk and run my system on just that; I just something under it - an operating system. The software may run on more than one operating system, but it can't run without one, that makes it dependent on having an OS even though it's not dependent on a specific OS.

Also it's unclear to me exactly what sort of browser problems you're talking about. Problems with installing and running the browser (probably an OS issue)? Problems with writing extensions for the browser (that would differ for each browser mostly independent of OS)? Problems with writing websites that run in the browser (probably a CSS/HTML issue)?

Someone working in Tech Support, supporting multiple environments would be able to answer most of these types of questions quite quickly, and now we're going to make it difficult to find questions they can answer?

    I'm not so sure ...

I'm confused, the wife uses Opera on her Nintendo DSi , what OS is that?

It was just a thought that a browser forum separate from an OS forum would be beneficial, I guess the concensus is different.

hey ho, it was just an idea!

The Nintendo DSi uses an embedded system in the form of a firmware. I've heard rumors that it's built on a Linux kernel but I really couldn't tell you if that was true for sure.

I don't think we need a "Browsers" forum but then I'm the one who said we should start consolidating the less busy forums together. My guess is that a "Browsers" forum would be about as popular as the "Mac Help" one (^_^)

I thought about the forum merges a bit more, on the one hand it's nice to have clear forum titles like "Regex Programming" but with only 531 threads it's not really worth it. Maybe merge ones like that so "Regex Programming" would get merged into "Other Programming Languages" but still have a link in the forum listing that says "Regex Programming". That way we have a clear independant link to indicate we handle regex stuff but in reality it's just a link to the "other" forum. hmmm I think I'll copy this to the moderator thread about new features.

I think the Regex Programming forum should remain separate since we went to the trouble of making it.

Making a dedicated forum about web browsers would mostly be a place where threads would need to be moved to one of the development/programming forums or networking help.

Regex should remain separate since it is (for the most part) language/platform independent. I've answered a lot of regex questions in the past for languages I don't even know simply because I was familiar with other PCRE implementations.

If we keep categories for title prefixes then you could easily have a new [Regex] one.

Might be no harm to implement a web/js based regex tester as a link off that ...
