Mark as answer(ed)
It would be nice to see this forum was a mark as answer or thread answered feature.
E.g. if you post a question in a forum, you can select which reply helped you out (and maybe give reputation to that user). The thread would then have a green tick next to it on the forum display page, so other users would know that it has been resolved and not to bother opening the thread. This would mean that threads wouldn't go unanswered as often, as I often just look for threads with 0 replies to answer as ones with >0 replies may have been answered

1. Some people read threads whether they've been answered or not. Sometimes to learn. Sometimes to make sure that whatever answer that has been given is correct or to just offer more insight. Also sometimes people have similar questions that that weren't completely answered by the replies given.
2. There's a little set of scales in the upper right hand corner of every post. That allows you to give or take away reputation from people you like or dislike. It's mostly a toy but it's how we give kudos for things around here.

Extending onto your #1: 1 Extended: Sometimes people reread because they forgot what they said, and get negatively repped for it. Some read to make jokes or harrass anyone that they can because they are mean. Sometimes (though rare) people read the thread because they are curious to know who said what and why they said it. Some reread to pick fights about what is the best way to solve the problem. Some people (like me) reread to give out a lot of rep because it's a toy. Right Sep? Good job CJ. Chad

We've discussed this topic before and it's voted down every time. Who decides if the topic is answered? The user? They'll just take anything that works. Is that right? Should the "answer" be what works or what is right? If new versions come along, does the correct answer change? You could say leave it up to moderators to mark the threads, but we don't really want all of that extra work. So, bottom line, leave it the way it is. ![]() ---John Holmes... |
