I think I can live with the ads if Devshed stays free.
BUT Devshed has MANY more ads than any other website I use. It's really over-the-top here. Some pages show the same ad twice, right next to each other. I seriously doubt that that makes it more likely for people to click on them. My brain manages to block out all of the ads, but I know they're there ![]()

I was not suggesting that any of the content be pay only. The information on here should be free.
What I intended to imply by saying a 'partner's' forum, was basically, their own, private, lounge. The example site I am using, everything is available, even if you arn't a member, but if you donate, you get one additional forum. This forum is used for things like discussing site direction, requesting of features, more personal conversation, etc. |

That sounds like parts of the site being pay only to me, including any content that may inadvertently get posted in the premium section.
Besides, this would hit the regulars hardest, and the regulars are the ones who generate the content that makes this site economically viable to run, which is presumably why the admins are opposed to it.

Why would it hit the regulars? My example has the extra forum, think of it like being allowed into a share holder's meeting, sort of.
It's more of a feeling that you directly contributed to the site, not saying that content doesn't contribute, as well as bragging rights! |

The regulars are the most likely people to want to join another 'social' forum, why would one-visit people do that?
We have the lounge, we have the outhouse. Information should be free, that's what the admins have said and that's what I believe. |

I don't think any of the regs would go for it - we have the lounge for tech and outhouse for off-topic, as LP said. And one-time members? Why the hell would they pay money to talk on an empty forum?
Sorry: no.

This is a no go, as the boss said, "information should be free".
But yeah, I don't think a lot of the regulars would go for it either. I'd need to think twice if I had to pay to come on here to chat when you can do that over an IM client if you wanted to. Anyway, can you see anyone wanting to pay a fee to read some of the threads in the Outhouse !? ![]()
