Regarding Reputation points

Ok, this might have been asked, but I'll ask again.
With the reputation points/rep power, if you give points to someone, do you lose those points or do you still keep them?
The answer might deserve a spot in the FAQ.

I read that, and it doesn't say if a user giving points still retains his points.
is it like
A has 4 points
A gives B's post 1 point
A has 3 points left

Or is it
A has 4 points
Gives B's post a point
A has 4 points still
??

You can give the same number of points each time you give out rep, but you can only do that up to ten times in 24 hours then all you can give is '0' points until your 24 hour period is over. But, if you disagree, it halfs it e.g. if your rep power is 4, if you disagreed with me on a post, then you could only derep me a maximum of 2 points.

Pretty sure it's in the FAQ's somewhere. But, on that, don't worry about it so much, it doesn't really mean anything.

I've always thought it would be interesting if you did lose. say half the points you give from your score.
