i agree with chief, i am fairly new(2 months now) and when this round of hacks showed up(mainly the belting system) i was "ok what the heck is that?" and now that i have had time to adjust(and work my *** off to become a full member, still only halfway there) and get used to what everything is. p.s. did i mention i think maybe the 100 post limit for full members is a little high? |

they aren't really all that hard to get, and think about it, the forums have 150,000 registered members, and avatars are only supposed to belong to the "committed" group that are actually committed to the forums.....

I agree with these. People will know when someone tells them something that it is valuable advice. Quote:
LOL, you say 2 months but it says you started in nov 2004, and you are a contributing user, but don't have 100 posts yet (still at 95). BTW 100 is not that much, but that depends if you are active in a lot of forums or have much time to be helping everyone.

I like reputation stuff on this forum. It gives me a way to appreciate others help. Please don't remove it.
Thanks |

since this thread's been resurrected, I was thinking about maybe, instead of using the "Username (fill-in-the-blank): Comment" layout, we could just use "+/- Username Comment", that way someone could say something like "+ B-Con thinks you're a troll" instead of "B-Con agrees: I think you're a troll"..... the plus/minus sign on the front, or something similar, would be needed so positive and negative rep were desernable in case the comment itself was unclear....

i think approve and disapprove sound a lot better than agrees and disagrees.. grandmotherly.. well just a tad.. but its a positive change
![]() btw.. kinda strange to see thread started by sep..

My suggestion: make repping in the lounge not count towards the rep. By that I mean, allow people to "agree/disagree" with posts in the lounge, but don't actually add to or subtract from the person's rep. Then people can agree when things are funny all they want, or disagree when someone gives a differing opinion, all without it being a big deal.
Let the reputation power change when it is in a forum that matters. This board seems to be 99% tech support. I don't think there is much that can be considered "contributing to the forums" in the non-tech support lounge. I have a feeling that there are very few posts ever made in the lounge that are truly rep worthy, either up or down. But using the agree/disagree can be (and is) used all the time. I see people say things in the lounge and think "well I don't agree with that but I don't want to rep-- them for it" so I do nothing (or reply which would be at the end of the thread). If I knew it didn't count, I'd do it a lot more. I like having short messages on posts. It's a quick way to see the overall response of that thought. It just shouldn't add to or detract from their perceived ability to answer questions. Alternatively: Rep per forum. Then even the lounge can have rep, and people can see who are interesting/funny in that context, but when they post in PHP or MySQL, their rep might only be a few because they don't post there much or they don't answer many questions. It'd be a good way for someone to know the person definitely has knowledge in the subject at hand. My 2 cents. Last edited by Xeo : May 15th, 2005 at 09:13 AM. |

It's been asked and the rep system doesn't support turning it off on a per-forum basis. It's a good idea, though. If anyone can hack the rep system to support this, or reputation on a per-forum basis, I'm sure the Admin's would entertain the idea.
