the belts...
we all know the belts have been elminated. can you post a news thing, or at least update edwin's post, to explain what the new thing is?
and, for what it's worth, i think devshed should go back to the karate belts. people who aren't familiar with the form can understand it, as its more of a well known thing. and, in my opinion, these little dev icons just aren't as cool as the belts. **starts chant** BRING BACK THE BELTS, BRING BACK THE BELTS (or at least explain the new system..?) thanks!!

I liked the belts too, the new DevShed pound sign is more site oriented, but it is hard to figure out what each one means. haid's point of the belts being easy to understand is really good; plus you get a good feel of accomplishment when you post enough 'help' to move to the next belt rank, stripe or solid belt.

If they really can't stand the belts, why not _just_ stars or a system similar to the military rank system.

I'd say that it's more likely to be a combination of your web browser caching the images and whether the hardware cluster you're currently using is updated or not. BTW - this is being discussed in the outhouse.

I dunno, M. Hirsch sounded pretty serious about it. ![]() |

We decided to go with a more site orientated grading system - simply mouse over the images - they are very self explanatory.

What's confusing, though, is having the logo in it (without a real function) and those ambiguous, differently sized stars. Here's a suggestion: Go with either just the stars (same sizes, maybe different colors for power-users) or with just the logo in miniature (also with different colors). |

Let me repeat it again:
The "pound sign" is a woodworker's tool, a clamp. It has been "our" community symbol since our founding. Yes, I am serious. Replacing the belts with something resembling "our identity" is the greatest change I have seen here for years. And the new symbols look far superior to the old ugly standard hack belts. M.
