I really do think you're taking this a little too far

OK,
we have a scenario where a disgruntled user decides to take "their" content off the shed. They can no longer delete their posts by marking them for deletion, so they are forced to edit their posts - given. Q. If the threads are marked for deletion, how easy is it to undelete the post/thread? Q. If the post is edited is there a changelog, or some other way of recovering content once it's edited? My last word on the matter, unless there's a good reason to respond ![]() |

I'm surprised that no one suggested that we be allowed to delete posts only when it is the last one in the thread. IIRC, many phpBB2 forums implement the feature in that manner.
I don't have experience modding vB, but it seems like a fairly simple mod to me. Quote:

We can edit our posts so there's no content, which can't be recovered from (except from backups, a painful exercise), but if we could delete our posts the undelete flag can be unset (relatively easier), thereby recovering the data, in the event of a rogue.
The revocation of the delete privilege is effectively pointless to combat the "legacy" situation. That's all I'm saying ![]() |

Coming to the party late, but only now hit the problem.
![]() Kravvitz mentioned other boards, and I assumed that here one couldn't delete their own post unless there were no posts after it. I wouldn't think any board would have allowed deletion after any responses. I have been on boards that did not allow edits after an elapsed 24 hours. That, too, seems a good plan. My vote would go for:
cheers, gary
