The Legacy of one our brethren
I can no longer delete my own posts, I assume this is Balaam's legacy, because he attempted to delete all his own posts?
Being able to delete posts has a valid use when an answer has been already given that's more than adequate, and you end up editing your answer so it looks like lame $post++; --Ax /edit, even in this forum, still no option to delete Last edited by Axweildr : August 10th, 2005 at 03:49 PM. |

I agree with Ax, I think that there is a valid reason for having to delete your own posts. A couple of times I've ended up double posting the same post, and I usually end up deleting the other one. That's where I think it can be handy to be able to delete your own posts. Is there no way this decision can be overturned ?? Be a bit of a pain to constantly ask Mods to delete my double posts !

Just report it to moderators and we'll handle it. If you give a second, duplicate answer, just leave it. It's not hurting anything and maybe you're explanation will be easier to understand to others. Admins made this decision, so it's not coming back. :/

If the reasoning behind it was to stop someone from mas-deleting there posts, you could set a limit where a person can only delete something like two posts per day or something. Allowes enough deleteing for the mess-up posts, but keeps a person from deleteing all their stuff.
I didn't even notice the option was gone, but I have needed to delete a post on occasion. Sometimes I'll submit my reply, but nothing ever happens (it's like the transaction stops). I usually go read something else while it "submits". Come back to that tab a while later, post is still there, hit submit again, and then have a double-post.

When that happens on my first post to a thread, I never get subscribed to it as I should be, but I just do that manually.

In the forums where I am moderator, I automatically delete double posts... lord knows I made enough of them my own self when I first got here, and the mods were more than accommodating for me. No reason why they'd stop now.

If you need to legimately delete one of your own posts, just PM a moderator in that forum (listing) and ask them to do so. The admins implemented this to prevent people from deleting their own posts, since doing so would mean people who have similar problems would not be able to try a solution that worked for another user, and there would also less page hits (think SEO), which in turn would create less profit for the people who run Dev Shed and therefore be harmful to the community even further.

Lads,
This runs on computers, the threads are simply marked as deleted AFAIK. The two deletions per day is valid, and a simple exception report per forum, would lead to the mods having more productive experiences, rather than running around after us, and cleaning up our mess Just my €0.02 --Ax |

I would really like to have the 'delete own'-post function back.
Not that I use it often but there is legitim use for it. Like if I completly missread the question or given an answer that I regret( like a post that could lead to lets say flamewars) I would have the option to remove my post completly instead of just editing away everything I've just written and leaving an empty post. Since the answer is incorrect or wrong there is no loss if I remove the post myself, and a wrong answer or an empty post would probablyu be worse for SEO. |
