This forum could use [FUNC] tags
Wouldn't it be nice to be able to say something like "Check out [func]mysql_connect()[/func]"? I often find myself copy and pasting it as a link, but since this forum is all about PHP, it could be useful to have the link hardcoded into a bb tag.
What do you think? |

Mmmm that would be nice. If you made a typo in the function name then it wouldn't have a valid link.... But a nice idea regardless.

Yeah....
But if you make a typo in any link you don't have a link!

How about a [!@#$%&] tag that automatically links to the "How to post a question" sticky?

Not a bad idea, but there are many other languages discussed here besides PHP. I think something like [func=php]make_script_secure_from_hackers()[/func] would be better. [func=perl], [func=c#], etc...
Also, contact the PHP developers and have them write that function, many people need it! ![]() Moving to Suggestions forum, btw. ---John Holmes... |

I just link to www.php.net/func_name - if I type it wrong, php.net searches the site for it and suggests what it should have been.
I so wish that other languages had a similar quick lookup system.

I think there is already an amazon.com hack, basically if you type [amazon]ASIN-CODE[/amazon] it links to the correct page, and some of the versions put the picture of the item in as well (clickable).
perhaps a hack like that could be modified to be [phpfunction]str_replace[/phpfunction] or something? |

Generalizing it like that does make sense. I was talking specifically PHP. It could also be the case that [func] in the PHP forum links to the PHP function, and [func] in the Perl forum links to perl functions. But I like your idea better. |
