Suggestion - Time for a fresh Dev Shed design?

Is it not time that Devshed had a bit of a re-design. Compared to a number of forums its starting to look a bit dated.

It does not need anything massive just something to make it look a little more polished.

You know I've been thinking the same thing. It's well annoying that they won't update the whole system to a more recent version. I think this theme is only a few steps away from one of the default stock themes. I've seen a few other forums with the same design.

I don't care if they change the site to PINK, just give me alternating row colors in the thread lists!

Might be a nice idea as a community project if people were to volunteer for it. I'm sure we've enough talent about the place and I'm sure the admins would be more favourable towards a redesign if they didn't have to do (and pay for) all the work.

I think this method was proposed last time, to no effect.

That was under the old site ownership, IIRC, no?

We're actually due for a re-design - I know its slated, but to be honest I am not certain for when. We've also talked about upgrading the forum system, but a lot of customization went into it when it first got built, and some add-ins/plug-ins won't work with it. Hopefully that will change with the redesign though.

Well I want to re-submit my feature request about sticky posts. I think they should be seperated from the rest of the forum posts to make them more distict. Just some sort of divider between the stickies and normal posts would do. At the moment it seems a lot of people just don't see them.

I don't know.. I think people see them.. I just think people don't care. They don't want to read more than they need to. They just want to post their question so they can hopefully get an answer as soon as possible.

(But spacing out the stickies is still a good idea)

If you space out the stickies, I think people will filter them like sponsored results and ad banners. Keeping them in the list of "real threads" at least makes them seem active.

By seperation I'm talking about like one row as a gap. Just something to distinguish them from the other posts. I think it's a good idea, otherwise I wouldn't of proposed it. If we're going to have a re-design then I figure we might as well all chime in on what we think is good and bad. How I wish the admin had asked our opinion about having a diseased vagina as the forum top banner ^_^

Yeah, the vagina has to go. Luckily they changed the search box so it no longer says "search her" right below the vagina, but still...

The OLD DS design (the one before this one) had my alternating row colors.

While we're on the subject, multiple people have suggested to me that we put in the ability to see the last X reputations given by a particular user, rather than just their reputations received. It would make tracking down abusive members easier, and it would just be fun to see.

Usual disclaimer: No, I don't actually care about the rep system, this is not a complaint about the rep system, the rep system is a toy that nobody should spend any time on whatsoever and it exists in its own universe immune from criticism.
