Timeout on devshed scripts
This has been happening to me several times: I'll post a reply on forum and it will twiddle and twiddle and then offer to download me a phpscript called newreply.php I have been a vbulletin admin and also written other apps. In my experience that happens when the server doesn't get done with the script in the allotted time. Time to upgrade your infrastructure, Devshed?
I compose my posts in the textfield, so when this happens they are lost. I will probably not post any more until I'm notified that it's fixed.

I am getting very long load times this morning. I haven't been patient enough to wait and see if it finally loads...This is to just read a thread or view a forum. Has nothing to do with replying.
Connection is made and the header gets displayed but nothing after that...

When I submit a reply it's 50/50 whether it will return me to the page or give me a 404. When I refresh the page it loads and my reply would of been submitted. For now I just copy all the text in the message box before submitting for the few times it died prior to submitting my message.

Well they seem to make it to the database
I tried another one. It gave me the download dialog but it must have successfully completed updating the database this time before it went tits up
because my response was posted, and lets see if this one will be. |

I noticed I only get the 404 when replying. Never had it when previewing a reply, sending a PM or just viewing a thread/forum.
Edit: Just had it happen when I posted this reply. It isn't actually a 404, in fact it doesn't list the error code at all, the message in IE7 is: Quote:
Edit Edit: Another thing I noticed is that once it does this it doesn't seem to mark me as subscribed to the thread i.e. I don't get the little blue box next to the thread title (in the thread list) like I do with threads where I've successfully posted first time. My reply will appear there when I hit refresh but not the blue box. Last edited by Tann San : March 11th, 2008 at 07:18 PM. |

Heya, so it just happened again this morning when I was replying to this thread. My reply gets posted but the page fails to reload with the error I quoted previously. When I refresh the page my post is there but it shows that I'm not subscribed to the thread like I normally would be.
This never seems to happen when I am editing a post by myself or another user. I'm wondering if it has something to do with being subscribed to about 2150 threads. In the User CP I have my subscription option set to Instant Email Notification. The death of the page happened when I used IE6 and now while I'm using IE7 on two different systems. When I manually subscribe to the thread it wizzes through with no slowdown or dead pages. |

I've noticed that happen. I'm also pretty sure it is not related to subscribing because I never subscribe to any thread and I had this problems a lot.

Hi All,
We have have made some server changes to help with these timeouts. The changes should solve these issues. If any more issues occur please continue to post them. We will use the information to determine what other changes may be needed. Thanks, Charles |

Hi Everyone,
Please if anyone has any more timeout posts can you add a few details so that we can have as much info as possible to track down this problem? What time did the error occurred? What exact error happened, please include screenshots if possible? What browser were you using when it happened? Is this the only error you have had today or have you had any other issues using the internet today? These should really help us get some info on this issue and get it straightened out. Thanks for the cooperation, Charles |
