Upgrading Dev Shed?
I noticed that Dev Shed runs on a rather old version of vB. Are you planning on upgrading it? Is it because of the modifications you have installed is not compatible with the newer version (would be my guess)?

I do not see them mentioning the exact version they are using but as long as they have applied the security patches they should be ok. For a heavily modified VB like this one you cannot just nuke the old version and install the latest and greatest unless you want your site to loose its unique look.
Why do you see it as a priority to run the latest n greatest if all patches are applied? Just my 2 bobs worth. |

Time; Yes, money, not likely.
The only reason it would cost to upgrade a vB forum if it costs for the uploads to the host etc. Getting the newer version of vB is free if you have a vB licence. If you do not have a vB licence you are not allowed to use the software at all (no matter what version) in the first place. I'm happy as long as Dev. Shed gets the latest patches, but there might come a time where this version is no longer supported but as the previous posters said, no need to worry then. Thank you all for your replies ![]() |

I'd quite like to see an update, I played with the beta version
of vb 3.5 and its new features for moderators are really cool! The admins have said quite a few times that it is unlikely they will update the software any time soon though, given the number of hacks and customisations. I'd say money is a factor - a lot of work would have to be put in to an update; vB 3.5 is a whole lot different to the current version we are running.

We are -very- happy with the highly modified version of vb that we are running. We always apply all security patches and even have patched some things vb isnt aware of ![]()
