I get called "guy", "he", and "him" so many times on this site because there is no way for anybody to tell that I'm a female so people just assume I'm a male. (Are programmers mostly guys?) What I would like is a way to put my gender on my profile page so when people view it they'll know I'm not a guy. |

That would be against some privacy laws in some countries where Devshed has members. You could use your Avatar, or sig, to reflect your gender, now that you've got over a 100 posts, and you're here over 90 days. Where it says registered user, you can use a "Custom Title" as well HTH

I think the reason for that is that the majority of programmers are male and it's easier to be presumptious and type `he' than `he/she' or something gender-neutral.
Good idea for some sort of indicator - I've no idea if vBulletin has such a hack but I've seen something similar on YaBB before. In the meantime, you may have to rely on changing your user title to let people know. That's what LinuxPenguin had to do when he posted a photo and everyone thought he was a girl.

I can't do any of that. I know I've been here for the required amount of time and have the required amount of posts but it won't let me have an avatar or anything. I don't know what is wrong. Do you?

I think I read somewhere that the granting of avatar rights isn't automatic the second you hit 100 posts. I believe there's a script that runs periodically to enable accounts that have reached that limit. Try again in a few hours, or tomorrow, and it should fix itself.

There are a few females that frequent the Lounge. We somehow got their gender straight. But that's probably because they frequent the Lounge...

Does the picture on your homepage give people enough of a clue as to which gender you are?
PS: I think, aside the law aspect, can you imagine how many geeky kids you would have whacking off over you knowing that you are really female and not just some guy in a chatroom playing a prank ![]() |
