Why can't I PM anyone?

When I try to send a private message, I get this error:

^ the 10 post rule was implemented for entirely that reason. We had a number of spammers do that.

Yes, but it's not that hard to make ten random posts. So if I want to create an account for the purpose of PM spam, clearly I'll be more than motivated to spend 5 minutes making ten random posts. So, for the stated purpose, the rule is worthless.

Sure, but ten random posts will most likely be caught by mods first & the user watched. AFAIK, we haven't had any cases of PM spamming since it was implemented, so it is working.

It works exactly the same way that car alarms do - they wouldn't stop dedicated thieves, but just makes most of them move on to the next car. The 10 post rule is nothing major, but it just makes the spammers move on to the next big forum.
