WSH Forum
Can we get a forum dedicated to WSH. When you consider the possibilities, JScript, VBScript, WMI, etc. It's a broad topic that deserves it's own forum.

I had to google that to realise what it is (for those who can't be bothered, Windows Scripting Host).
Since we've never yet had a question on it, *shrug*. We have an `Other Programming Languages` forum those questions could be asked in.

If a forum were required it would need FAQ's and Tutorials, got enough ammo

I'm prepared to put in the time. Step over to our sister site at Devhardware and see what I've done there. I'm willing to put as much time into this site as well.
Let me clarify a little further why I believe Windows Script Host deserves it's own forum. First off, it's next generation batch programming. It's native to every Windows release. It natively supports both Jscript and VBscript, but can be expanded to use any scriptable language. As such it would be easily covered in one of our other forums, however, the WSH object model provides access to a number of COM interfaces not normally available to these scripting languages. While you still have the flexibility of adding components with the use of ActiveX controls and the like, WSH is very powerful in it's rawest form. And the scripts also run much faster than say a batch or regular program. Take the Windows Disk Cleanup Wizard for instance. I've written a WSH script that performs the exact same task in roughly less than a quarter of the time. And it still has all the same features. WSH also contains methods that provide most of the functionality of the Windows API without having the added toll of loading extra dll's. IMO, due to the vast possibilities, WSH really does deserve it's own forum. |

There already is a Scripts forum. That's what WSH is- a scripting language- no? Like bash?

Yes and No, I think by providing an explicit forum for WSH it may provide a commercial advantage over some of the other sites in terms of drawing new punters
Just my €0.02, and given that a moderator (potential) has put themselves forward, that's over 50% of the battle, onwards to the poll, nilpo, if you'd be so kind ![]() |
