Would it be possible to have www.forums.devshed.com point to the forums? Right now it comes up with a "Server not found" error.

Any reason you can't just use the right address? Doesn't seem inordinately difficult.

That address was abandoned a while back. I don't know the reason, off the top of my head, but I would guess that maintaining a bunch of unnecessary URLs is a burden on the few admins JC has in his employ, costs notwithstanding.

surely it would only be 1 or 2 DNS records, needing not-a-lot of maintenance. Although it does seem easy enough to just type the ordinary URL !

no-www.org
There's no point in adding a www sub-sub-domain just to please one or two people who actually type it. At least, that's my opinion.

Have these people never visited the likes of news.yahoo.com (www redirects ... e..v..e..n..t..u..a....l.......l.......y) or del.icio.us (www does not work) or http://3.141592653589793238462643383279502884197169399375105820974944592.com (www does not directly redirect) ... ? Would seem most folks would know that subdomains don't always work with www. |

I guess, but when people do use the www subdomain, it doesnt occur to them usually to try it without the www. when it doesnt work (or at least the people i know) |
