Sticky thread view counts not updated

Hi, I started a sticky poll in the Flash forum last month and have been keeping my eye on the view count to see the level of interest in it. About a week ago the count stopped incrementing. I figured that interest had petered off. Today I went into the thread and found that 3 more people had voted which means the view count should of increased by at least 3 from the 389 it was at last week. When I looked at it again it still showed 389 even though I had just viewed the thread. I've visited it with another browser that is not logged in and it still does not increase the view count.

I've tested this with the top two threads in the Flash Forum. The Poll thread shows 389 views and the Flash Resources thread shows 14,524. No amount of refreshes or different browsers seem to make a dent to the view count.

No threads update correctly. In fact, of the last threads I posted in the views were one more than the replies.

I found it odd, but didn't care enough. My OCD kicks in about it every so often though.

hmmm you're right, I just checked some normal (non sticky) threads and the view count is broke on them as well. this thread shows 8 views although between me and the OP it would probably be at least 14. Viewing it now does not increment the count.

edit: oh ya, you're double right about threads showing a view count of +1 the number of replies. The earliest I'm showing this in the Flash forum is July 17th. Threads prior to that have the usual 20+ views i.e. a number higher than replies + 1.

All the threads I've gone to have been stuck at 0 views. Maybe 1 if I'm lucky. Broken part of the server? This has annoyed me too as I can't tell if anyone else has viewed it.

Here is something that I see regularly. Sorry for blurriness but it is huge screenshot unless I take it down a size.

Those 0's are all the way down the page until it gets to sticky threads which obviously has views on it.

Thanks. Can I ask what was causing the problem (besides the obvious SQL statement wasn't working. Unless that was the problem)?

    I'm going to guess:

The update query was in an if statement which was never reached?

My guess. The query was correct, but the server was timing out.

    Bzzzzzt.

The query was taking longer than the apache timeout allowed.

We'll be running the query manually to catch up (need to make a small program to do that), then we'll be running it more often so it doesnt get so big anymore.

Well the issue has been resolved. I know rich filled you all in on what happened, and I am going to keep an eye on it to make sure the numbers keep updating correctly.

Again thanks for pointing it out,

raaa! from 389 to 542 views, now that's what I'm talkin about :) (let's forget about how after over 500 views there are only 7 votes)

Thanks for fixing that one and keeping us informed along the way.
