Issue with redirects to spam site

official reporting based on Some weird stuff happening on devshed

So ... any plan to fix the issue with all the redirects to the spam/malicious site?

Btw, the SSL certificate is expired as well.

I posted about it in our mod forum. Still haven't heard anything.

The forums never worked well over HTTPS anyways.

    ~ Problem with http://forums.devshed.com/ ~ (merged)

    Hi there administration staff,

A problem with this site has come to light today when visiting this site.

It is an intermittent problem and can occur sometimes on first visit or
    on page refresh.

Instead of seeing the forum, I find that I have been redirected to sites
    like these...

    1. kronos dot icu/3-recommended-schools-for-online-associate-degree-in-criminal-justice/
    2. school-fix-news dot info/let-online-colleges-work-to-your-advantages/
    3. eniki-beniki dot info/ball-state-university-online-programs/
    4. doesok dot top/how-to-tell-if-an-online-school-is-accredited/
    5. greencool dot icu/can-adults-earn-online-high-school-diploma/
    6. ekohufepays dot tk/index/?2101505838590
    7. unique-news-week dot info/getting-started-with-associate-degrees-online/

This problem does not happen on any other forums or sites that I visit.

On taking the link to change my password I got sent to: How Does an Online School Get Accredited? instead. This REALLY looks so good for your reputation as a technical/developers site ...

I have been experiencing Malware redirects on this site for about a month. I am just going to stop coming here.

On the basis that no-one, apart from Requnix, remotely attached to site admin has even acknowledged the issue, I fear I will be doing the same. May pop in in the new year to see if anything has been done.
Devshed started dying a few years back when they had that hardware outage (I believe it was) and was out for a week or so. Didn't really recover from that, but now ... pull the plug, let it die in peace

Next Monday will be four weeks of this. I'm picking it as my deadline.

    Hi there requinix,

I sent a P.M. to "Brett Tabke" at...

...as he is a regular contributor there and appears to be the owner of devshed...

I pointed out that that forums.devshed.com was in dire straits.
He replied, almost immediately with this impressive message...

    "thanks"

    ...and nothing more.

That was almost a week ago.

His profile at devshed indicates that his last activity here was on March 6, 2018

Methinks that the captain may have abandoned ship before his motley crew.

Captain, which Captain? The captain already left the ship when Jim Boykin bought it.

Now (a year ago) it has even been sold further - as a part of a package - to someone who never asked for it. And most likely care even less about about it!

    Hi there MrFujin,

Brett Tabke made this further reply to me on the 30th December 2018...

Myself and Justin at ninjas took a long look at it.
Found some issues with malware and removed them.

Yes, we know there are numerous exploits in the wild for that version of vb.
I believe the issue you found was actually due to wordpress on the box (older/not updated).
I found a dicey plugin. Deleted that and found several exploits on disk - got those.
Not saying there are not more - but found the worst two that had infected a js script on the box.

    That said...

We've been working several (@!#!#) MONTHS on VB trying to get it to upgrade to the latest version.
Because of addons and a slew of compatibility issues (php, mysql/maria, os, etc) it's a cluster f*ck.
Over two dozen unique software issues when attempting to upgrade the db) Even after addressing each
one as they came up - the resulting copy refuses to run.

We've worked on SEOChat on/off longer than I care to admit (same version as seochat). We have paid
vbulletin to do an upgrade on it for us, and they have been unable to do so thus far. (no sh*t).
We are still talking with them and trying to get them a new dev box environment that they find
acceptable (they won't do it on a live server even if I swear to a full image back up of the box)

So no, it has not slipped off the radar. We are just working on getting the software upgraded and
trying to avoid bandaids that may or may not hamper that process. I don't want to fix a broken box
when a shiny new one is within reach.

    Thanks
    Brett Tabke
