Unhappy HELP!! SPAM's return-path is.....my email!!

Dear All,

Recently, I've received over 2000 return emails daily. All emails are SPAM returned/ undelieverable emails. I've checked the mail content and found that the SPAM was not sent by me. They all were sent via different IP address. But unlucky, the return-path of the SPAM is ... my email address. So all undelieverable emails have returned to me.

How can I solve this problem...?

Best regards,
Jester

Are you running your own mail server or what? If not, there is not much you can do about it but to use filtering.

Try to google for SPF. Sorry, I don't use sendmail, just qmail only.

Why don't you use your block option in the inbox to thwart those mails. This is a time consuming affair. Have you tried www.postmaster.co.uk, which is free from the business of spam. Its anti-spam features are quite potent and you will have a junk-free mailbox

Sorry, take the hit

I don't know if an SPF record will help if you aren't running your own DNS server. I would suggest that you consider upgrading your Mail Server to QMAIL or POSTFIX or some other full Mail Server Software.

If I understand SPF correctly it will authenticate mail, but it requires that you are running your own DNS for your domain.

http://spf.pobox.com/ , for details.

If your email has been used as the fake header for a spam attack then after the fact is probably to late. The mail is out in the wild and you weren't using SPF prior to release.

OK, what email address did they use? Did they use a generic email ... acct1@mydomain.com, or yourname@mydomain.com. The good news is that if you are running your own email server you can blackhole that acct. ie: set it to pipe to a seperate email folder, and setup a new email address for yourself.

Unfortunately I guess I'm suggesting that you take the hit from spammer and move on. Set up security, ie spf record, and look forward to the day when they start hanging spammer by their scrot sack on live TV.

sorry to be bad news charlie...Frog

I looked at postmaster.co.uk and it seems to be web mail only. Right?

Hi, thanks for your opinion. I am now considerating in changing my sendmail to Qmail. But have you got any related documents on how to implement it...?

Besides, unfortunately, the sender's email address was in random format... so, difficult to identify and block it with filter... now what I am doing is to wait the return-mail to be stop.... haha......

One way to stall these mails is by using the block option in your inbox. This is a time consuming process but an effective one. Other is to look for an email which considers spam an anathema. In my view www.homemaster.net is an ideal alternative, as i've been using their mail service for some time and yet to come across a junk. Apart from the email service, www.homemaster.net also has a host of interesting features like album, chat and discussion forum.

www.homemaster.net

Hi,

I just looked briefly at www.homemaster.net and nothing obvious about email options.

So maybe you can tell us Do they offer a POP account?

TIA
