can't enter password on cde screen lock

I have a solaris 9 server (fully patched) on an ultra 10. I am running cde. When the screen saver comes on I enter my password and it won't unlock. It just beeps like I entered the wrong password. I have to reboot because I do not know the processes to kill to unlock the screen.

Is this a bug?

Also, some of the applications I try and execute on the desktop (cde tools) say the files are not there. Any suggestions?
