    How to create links/soft links?

    HI there.

I have a unix filestore mapped to my network drive on my windows PC.
There are files (images) above my filestore that i need to be able to view through windows.
I understand that i can create a link or softlink so i can view these through a shortcut in my unix filestore on My Network Places.
I am not sure how i do this.
Do i open up a UNIX window and get to the root folder that i want to be able to see everything below it and then write the link command?
I have the command as ln -s
I am unsure what i put after this command, is it a shortcut name and then the directory path.

    i.e

    ln -s slash /local

where slash is my shortcut name and /local is the root of where i want to be able to see everything from.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

    Cheers

You can alternately "cd" to the directory where you want the softlink to exist. Then issue the command:

ln -s [name of directory to softlink here]

This way you don't have to remember the order of arguments.
