Dos2Unix for many Downloaded Files

Using a Windows PC I have downloaded a large application which I need to install on a Solaris system.

However I need to ensure that the files formats ar correct in the Unix system cr.lf etc.

Are they a batch mode for the dos2unix utility?

Many thanks,

Andy.

Have you downloaded Unix compatible installation? Then why do you need dos2Unix utility?

Does this installation have any text files? If not, you need not worry about the cr-lf. There are several advanced text editors that take care of cr-lf compatibility between DOS and Unix. I also suggest a Google search.

I have little Unix experience, but have the instructions to dowloand and built a piece of software. I was having problems with tar and gtar for the extraction - gtar not installed - problems I do not understand fully.

So I thought to dowload onto a PC and copy across; quiet a few files and directories.

Then use the dos2unix on these files; only the text ones other do not matter. Most is text as source code and build files.

That was my idea!

Andy.

It shouldn't make a difference what OS is running on the machine you downloaded them to. This issue mainly arises when the files were *created* on a Windows OS and need to be moved to Unix.

So long as all the copy mechanisms you used involved 'binary' mode (as opposed to ascii or character mode) then you should not need to do any form of conversion at the final, target machine.
