Hang after ifconfig plumb

I have recently installed the Solaris drivers for my RealTek based ethernet card. Note that my card is on the Solaris 9 HCL and the appropriate drivers have been installed.

When I run

ifconfig rtls0 plumb

Solaris will execute the requested operation. The whole system freezes about 4 seconds later, however.

What is causing this problem and how can I resolve it?
