remote uname help needed
Hi.
A unix security student here and need a little help with my assignment. I understand I can use uname to look up my system. Could anyone let me know what command to use in a script that would detect the operating system used by another computer? Simply put..we have ip addresses, how do we find out the type of operating system that machine is using? Any help will do. Thanks. |

Not as easy as you may think. Unless you can log in, you
are restricted to using some sort of fingerprinting to determine the OS. Do a Web search for "remote OS detection". Lots of information available. |
