Problem while creating tar

Getting this error while making tar
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

Command I am using is
tar -cvf dir.tar dir_name

It starts running but after sometime It gives the error and exits.

There's usually an error above that line. The line you've shown is the one indicating the preivious error is not recoverable.

What directory are you backing up?

I realized later ..the error was only coming when the tar file size was increasing 1 GB ..

Might be some restriction with tar version..anyways I need another help ..
I am creating a new thread..
