sendmail /mail/expn/vrfy/exrn syslog message
I am getting this message over and over in syslog on a Solaris 9 machine. It is a fully patched server and sendmail is running with a client sendmail.cf.
[IP mail.info] computer [computer-ip-address] did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MTA-v4 Does anyone know what it is and how to get rid of it. |

Did not issue errors
I've noticed this error on my Solaris 8 boxes. I beat my head against the wall wondering why they exist, and then it dawned on me- I'm running a monitoring tool that checks the smtp service on my Sun boxes every 5 minutes or so, and it doesn't actually connect to them- it just makes sure the port is active.
This sort of connection registers this log error. Same thing will happen if you just telnet port 25 on the box. Hope this helps! Patrick |

I'm running opennms on a server and you are right about that message.
Thanks very much |
